Your questions:
  • Why does my child struggle with Maths?
  • How are they taught in school?
  • How can I help my child with their homework?
My reply:
  • Lots of children have some basic misconceptions about mathematical terms.
  • Mastery of the basic skills are essential building blocks for a child's future success in Maths.
  • Children need to discover, discuss, prove and make connections themselves through exposure to a range of 'real-life' contexts and a variety of resources.
  • Practical resources are not always available for children in KS2 onwards.
Support I can offer you and your child:
  • An assessment to identify your child's strengths and areas of difficulty.
  • One-to-one tuition.
  • How to use visual and practical resources alongside the written method to support your child's learning and check their understanding of:  Counting, Patterns and Structures, Hundreds Tens Units, Number Bonds, Times Tables, Fractions, Calculation and the Meanings of Symbols.
  • How to check your child's understanding of Number through talk and reasoning.
  • How to apply basic number skills through Stories and Real Life Problems.
